My apology for Inconvenience

Dear Visitors, Yesterday I moved my web hosting account from Godaddy to sharkspace. SharSpace has amazing support that i noticed when i raised 60+ tickets (withing 12 hours asking response for everything) yesterday and got answer to every ticket within 10-15 minutes of raising the ticket whereas goddady takes at least 24 hours to reply. Everything was swift, except the database, it still has errors due to which you cannot see any post of 2008 and 2009. I am resolving the issue and this shall be resolved pretty soon. Thanks for being with me. I Will be back! Have fun Bikram P.S: Now this blog is on...

Stabilize Your Website With Stablehost

These days everyone is starting a web site, or at least a blog. This is indeed a great thing as they add up to the growing content of the Internet. I like this democratization of available knowledge, but there is something that concerns me. And the issue that bothers me has to do with the web space and the stability of a web site. Gone are the days when web hosting used to be expensive, these days it comes very cheap and everyone who can is starting a web hosting company to cater to the growing demand of the web space. There are companies that do tall claims of offering, unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth, 24/7 seamless customer support and what not. As said, these are tall claims, and even if the claims are right, how does it matter? What will you do with unlimited disk space or unlimited bandwidth if the web site is down 2-3hours (and even more) daily? How good is the unlimited disk space, or unlimited bandwidth if your website is down when your visitor wants to access it? And forget customer support, these fellow don’t have any, it takes ages to get one reply and add to this their hidden charges, some of them even charge for telephonic customer support. While hunting for web space for one of my upcoming web sites, I went to Stablehost Initially everything looked just the same to my untrained eyes, just like any other web hosting company, so I thought, okay this is just another company and it even don’t provide unlimited web space and other frills. But, I am not the one who jumps on conclusion that early, so I went ahead and started enquiring about the web hosting company offerings, comparing it with offers on the Internet and also did an internal evaluation of my needs. And to my surprise I found that I was wrong all along. I was wrong about my needs, my needs were not unlimited space, and no one needs unlimited web space. The real need of a website is stability, flawless presence backed by instant customer support, and all of these were available on stablehost. The hosting company also provided free domain for lifetime, which is a cool thing to have as domain is our virtual identity. Along with unlimited domain, the option of having unlimited MySQL databases gives the webmaster an immense opportunity to upscale his web site. This is important to run a web site the way I want. So, I went on and got a new web site registered (not this one), the process was very, very fast and to my amazement the website...

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography is an art or not? This debate should be left for the critics to fight and decide, whatever its final status comes to be, no one can deny the way photography has affected visual storytelling. Started with cave painting, visual storytelling has reached the masses, crossing the class boundary of fresco paintings and the time consuming process of the film cameras. Every device has a camera now, be it your computer, your cell phone or even your music players, and this revolution of film-less photo techniques of 21supst/sup century has truly democratized the art of visual storytelling. Gone are the days when someone had to be Caravaggio, da Vinci or Rembrandt to catch the essence of the moment and mesmerize the audience. With digital photography everyone is capable of capturing the moment and that too more precisely then did the great masters of yesteryears. Digital photography has changed everything, from the way we click images, the way we process images, the amount of pictures we take and share to the way we take notes. The impact of photography is so monumental that a section of post-modern art schools has stopped teaching their wards the art of drawing pictures; instead they are teaching the art of clicking pictures for preliminary...

Responsive People, Irresponsible Media

Responsive People, Irresponsible Media

Mumbai was attacked and we all were terrorized. We saw, we lamented, and we mourned! The way things took shape and are taking shape is indeed worrying. Empty words are filling our ears, and reality terror-porn is being served. We are not just consuming, we are devouring it. Media got the footage and as usual.… Ji haan! As usual, the media houses are planning all their programs, all their moves around these invaluable assets. Numbers are getting crunched, ad rates are spiking up, and number of incoming SMSes is getting speculated. How good the business opportunity it is! All those ‘Ji haans (yes)’ and ‘Gaur se dekhiyegas (look carefully)’ are getting stuffed in the narration and everyone is doing the India TV. TV today & India today group has taken this one-step further, they have even made, we-will-not-tolerate-this announcements and formed some form of anti-terror-marketing squad to reap in profits from the present situation. Their marketing and programming team is really amazing. They know how to cash in on every accident, every terror attacks and every victim. Day before yesterday, accidently Zee News called up Sayeed Naqvi, this is different Naqvi not that lipstick-power famed one, and I am not surprised, if you don’t know him, he is not a part of your perpetual present. Don’t blame yourself, or else your entire life will be missed making list of trifle things you cared about and important things you missed. Perpetual present! So, accidently Zee News called this gentleman over the phone, to take his reactions & views (perhaps) on Condoleezza Rice’s visit to India. I am calling it accidental, because, he started showing mirror to this, illiterate, ill-informed, unimaginative, uninformed, deeply-make-uped, newsreader. Poor girl! Mr. Naqvi should have known that the priority of the media has changed; understanding of your surrounding and knowledge of things are no more required to be in media. Sir, now a days, scripts are given to read. Substance (Thinking) is out of fashion, style is in sir. I just wonder, why all the newsreader need to have such a slender built? Why none of the girls with average and above average figures makes into news reading room? Maybe they are not talented. If they had been talented, wouldn’t they have maintained their figure? And what was the result, Mr. Naqvi was cut short and disconnected. Finally things were over for the poor girl; thankfully she did not notice what was going on or else how embarrassing the situation would have been for her? Ignorance is brilliant! And how much do we care for our country is evident from the amount of SMSes we send. This act of ours, at...

Help Delhi Maintain its Hygiene!

Help Delhi Maintain its Hygiene!

It was November morning and wintery (just on paper like everything else in India). The day was not as cold as it had to be. Regardless, I rode toward Gurgaon, feeling empowered, on my 350cc beast. The sweet sound of engine and the rustling of air through my helmet are always exciting. This is the time, when morning, even in Delhi, seems like a morning: sweet, slightly cold, soft sweet wind. Everything was perfect, I went to Gurgaon, did my work and returned within 10 minutes, indeed 2 hours of ride for a 10-minute work, the enterprise is worth praising. But to understand the fun, you should know the reason, which anyways is beside the point. What I was telling was, I was returning from Gurgaon and as usual humming some song; there is a peculiar thing about the way I sing a song, actually, I pick the music and change the lyrics and hum and even sing louder, sometimes really louder. I know, it’s embarrassing for some, sometimes even for me but at other, its sheer joy. It transcends and takes me back to the time, when I was a kid of 8-9, and during vacations, in cool breezy winter, I used to walk on the embankment. The river always was silent, listening to my humming and singing. I always knew I had little scope as a singer, and I guess even the river knew that I knew about my limitation and hence, she just stood there, silent, listening, obviously not admiring. Oops! I again straggled, the point is I was returning from Gurgaon, and just before Dhaula Kuan, at a red-light, I saw a beautiful, green, luscious (indeed it is if you see at that hour of the morning and from that spot, elsewhere…no guarantee), low-floor DTC bus. My eyes chased it and suddenly it stopped. The reason was a woman, middle edged, lower class. She had her head slightly popped out of window, I felt disgust and all my thoughts, and the feeling of rustling wind was gone. The woman was vomiting and painting the bus’s exterior with the substance she ate, before this incidence. Now, the question rises, is it that difficult to control this situation? Indeed, there are people who get motion sickness and they can’t do much about it. The question is, can’t government think about these smaller issues? How much will placing vomit bags in these buses will cost? 1 rupee or 2 each ($0.02- $0.04 each)? It’s not the question of price; it’s the question of willingness. Let me give one economic solution, which won’t cost govt. anything, but will take care of such situations., yet,...

…And We Will Not Tolerate This!

…And We Will Not Tolerate This!

Indeed sir, you won’t! But does it mean that you are going to take any action against it or do anything about it? The answer, indeed, is no. Not tolerating and acting against is not the same thing. Action requires being proactive, whereas ‘not tolerating’ requires merely a bit of reactiveness, which you have in full supply. And as there is no demand for this (reactiveness) now a days, you’ll continue to have it till next blast. A Simple law of economics. No. Indeed you are not to be blamed. You are doing whatever is in your capacity: writing letters, giving we-won’t-tolerate-this speech, having rice (no pun intended) offered by the United States. Your inability to take any action can’t be your fault, isn’t it? All your life, you have lived sucking life out of your subordinates, Indian citizens, and now come on, how can any Rakesh, Ramesh or Dinesh (my apology to all the Englize Indians, oops, Americanize Indians, for this Indian version of Tom, Dick or Harry) demand any action from you? How dare he? I am with you sir, in this lasting-till-death hibernation. Let me offer a solace, it’ll ease your tension out. I don’t know singing. Now, if someone just walks over to me, and says, “Hey Bikram sing! Can’t you? You are this, you are that….” And start abusing. Sorry sir, I get slightly agitated, infuriated on this abusing thing and quite understandably so (I hope you understand), I am just a common person. I do not have your capacity of tolerating this eternal garlanding of your maa aur behan (mom and sister). You are great, you can tolerate this. But other than avenging on this, I swear, I don’t do anything, I don’t sing. Simply because I can’t. How can anyone blame me for not knowing to sing? Not my fault! Similarly, how can anyone expect any action from you? You don’t know to act, you don’t have balls, actually it got removed before you took oath. What can you do about it? I am with you. This is not your fault. Is it not sufficient for this paagal janta (mad citizens) that you have just issued, ‘we’ll not tolerate it statement’? Indeed they are being too much demanding. Why they don’t understand, action requires strength of character. And now, at this age, at this ripe age, where will you bring character from? If you had been young, things would have been different, but at this age? Sheer nonsense! I know how hard it is to get up and say, ‘…and we’ll not tolerate this’. Instead of showing gratitude, this paagal janta is demanding something more, some action....

What is this Naqvi thing, anyway?

What is this Naqvi thing, anyway?

Yes, Mr. Naqvi, you are not a subject for any discussion, you never was. You are the bait BJP, has hooked to allure Muslim voters, the thing we do when we go fishing. Even if you are an object, there is no clear idea about what kind of object you are? Let’s talk about your owner BJP (objects don’t have any affiliation, they have owner). What’s its ideology? BJP talks about Hindutva. Your senior leader, much-revered-in-BJP-much-abominated-elsewhere, Mr. Narendra Modi swears by it. It seems like the party has one ideology, right or wrong, whatever it is. If it is so, what you, a Muslim, are doing there? There are some more like you? By the way, what’s your job in the party that has Hindutva at its core? They even talk about hindu rastravaad. If, this Hindu State thing becomes a reality, I hope it won’t ever happen, what will be the fate of Muslims? RSS, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and many such atrocious parties that back BJP, just because it exploits, Hindu sentiment. Now, seeing in this light, I fail to understand you reason for existence. I am not shocked on the news about your stament. There was no reason to be shocked, because I always was prepared for such things from you, people. There was just disgust, both for the way you spoke, and the delay you did in revealing your true colour. I even saw the broad smile, you had when saying sorry. Mr. Naqvi, you were not sorry, you just pretended to be sorry. You are not even a good actor to rightly pretend it. Mark my word. This statement of yours is going to cost BJP the coming election. It needs just basic civility to be human, which you showed, you don’t have. Now, it’s upon the public to decide what to do. The choice is between bad (UPA) and worst (BJP). I’ll go for the bad, till the time things improves for better. Find your ground, Mr. Naqvi, you don’t have any in BJP ort may be you have as a pawn. Why did not you react on Malegaon, a proof of Hindu terrorism? I think, you are no more a Muslim, and of course, you are not a Hindu either. What are you Mr. Naqvi? This is the question you should ask. And get some elementary classes in basic civility, before the election comes. Now asking for much, not expecting you or any of your kind being eloquent with his speech, for that, one need to have some mass, between his...

Two Mails that killed Whitenoise

Two Mails that killed Whitenoise

Prologue These two mails marked the end of Whitenoise. This brain-child of mine came into existence to make the living simple and facts more reliable. In our over communicated society marketing message is everywhere, everyone claims to be best or number one (a few on relevant attribute (s) of the brand, other on not-so-relevant attribute and while rest on entirely irrelevant attributes). Advertising does the work of showing forest in barren land. The mental-masturbation that these groups of pseudo (read creative and all) go through is simply mind boggling to what effect? To make our life hell? I believe, we are born as a human not as a consumer. Product /Brand is just a part (though somewhat big and necessary part) of our life. This initiative was to make us realize that we were born human not a consumer and we will be happy if we are left like that only. I also believe in old model of information sharing (instead of two-tier model of Mass Media) and this in turn strengthens the human bond and trust can again be instilled in the society and each other. We are fighting against the clutter, the noise, the carpet bombing that Mass media advertising is doing everyday and in turn making the life of average human very, very, very noisy. We are fighting against the PR attempt to buy the Society Watchdog make the individual more distrustful of every business activity. Information always had been noun. Then came digital revolution and it transformed ‘Information’ and now it is verb as well BUT we believe as it’s being a preposition rather. We strive to bring home this trust to people all across. This initiative, Whitenoise was brought down by its own team of people and I, THE FATHER, of this child lamented, mourned. Now it’s time for all of us to know the real reason behind it. Two mails that ceased the existence of Whitenoise and reason behind it can be found hidden in both the mails. I forgot to mention 40-50 calls and number of messages in my mail. Mail 1 Dear All, Without wasting any of yours valuable time let’s come directly to the issue at hand. On the auspicious day of Tuesday, July 17 2007, I sent a mail to all of us, whose subject line read, The Way Ahead for Whitenoise and Synopsis of last meeting. It has been exactly 8 days, 4 hrs and 20minute and I’ve not heard anything from any of us regarding that (except Dhiraj’s questions and suggestions that we all are aware of by now). The work we put in to run the Whitenoise is sufficient to make...
